But it is quite funny how Keir Starmer’s pledge to reduce carbon emissions has been twisted in the right-wing press.

Starmer has pledged to reduce UK emissions to 81% of 1990 levels by 2035.

Not reduce emissions by 81%. Reduce from 1990 levels.

Last year we had already reduced emissions to 53% of 1990 levels.

Look at this graph. They actually fell by 5% just between 2022 and 2023.

And reduced 25% in the last decade.

So, you might say, if we carry on doing basically the same things between now and 2035, we will hit Keir’s targets.
